Basin Support

Basin turns your voice memos into text on your iPhone. If something doesn’t work as expected, the answers below may help. For anything else, write to i7434554@gmail.com — please include your iPhone model, iOS version and a short description of what happened.

Getting started

Frequently asked questions

The record screen says the microphone is off. Basin needs microphone access to record. Open the Settings app › Basin and turn on Microphone. If another app or a call is using the microphone, finish that first and try again.

My words don’t turn into text right away. The first time you record in a language, iOS downloads Apple’s speech recognition model for it. Recordings made in the meantime are kept and transcribed automatically once the model has arrived.

How do I change the transcription language? In Basin, open Settings › Language and pick a language. Basin uses your iPhone’s language by default.

A recording from my Apple Watch hasn’t appeared on my iPhone. The watch sends each recording to your iPhone when the two are connected. Keep the iPhone nearby with Bluetooth on and open Basin on both; waiting recordings are sent automatically.

Where is the summary button? Summaries use Apple Intelligence. On devices that support it, open a memo, tap the More (…) button and choose the sparkles icon. On other devices the button is hidden.

I deleted a memo by mistake. Deleted memos stay in Settings › Recently Deleted for 30 days. Open it, select the memo and restore it.

Where are my memos stored? Only on this iPhone, in Basin’s own storage — Basin has no account or server. Like other app data, they are included in your iPhone’s own backups (iCloud Backup or a backup on your computer) when backups are turned on. To keep a copy somewhere else, share a memo as text, an image card or a Markdown note.

Privacy

Basin collects no data. Recording, transcription and summaries all happen on your device. See the privacy policy for details.
